The Botanical world feeds us, provides oxygen for us, and gives us the medicines to heal our bodies, the beauty to heal our minds and the essences to heal our souls. With over 250,000 known species, the plant world is the second largest population on the Plant. Species range from the tiny green mosses to giant trees.

Aromatherapy, also known as Essential Oil Therapy, is the art and science of extracting, through steam distillation or other means, the aromatic essences from blossoms, barks, roots, leaves, and seeds to balance, harmonize and promote the health of body, mind and spirit. It seeks to unify and strengthen physiological, psychological and spiritual processes to enhance an individual’s natural healing process.

Essential oil’s are the immune system of the plant, because of the stress they endure by the steam distillation or other forms of extraction, they released their own protective saps/extracts, which become what we call an essential oil, because they are essential for the survival of that plant.

How does aromatherapy work?

Aromatherapy works with the part of the brain called the limbic system. The limbic system is commonly referred to as the “emotional brain” since it influences emotions, the nervous system and hormones. When you inhale essential oil molecules, messages are transmitted to the limbic system, which affect heart rate, stress level, blood pressure, breathing, memory, digestion, and the immune system. This relationship is why smells often trigger emotions and it helps to explain why inhalation of essential oils can have some very profound physiological and psychological effects, it bypasses all other systems and goes straight to the limbic brain. Aromatherapy is used in a wide range of settings — from health spas to hospitals — to treat a variety of conditions. In general, it seems to relieve pain, improve mood, and promote a sense of relaxation. In fact, several essential oils — including lavender, rose, orange, bergamot, lemon, sandalwood, and others — have been shown to relieve anxiety, stress, and depression.

What you can expect in an aromatherapy session?

You can expect to be deeply listened to as you explain the physical, mental and spiritual symptoms you are experiencing. During this process, insights and understandings arise that begin to help you access your intentions and take responsibility for the healing that you have control of, no matter what the outcome of the illness or troubles are. From this understanding we will make your remedy. I will teach you how to use them to support your well-being and intentions for healing.

I use small concentrations of essential oil’s as to not interfere with any of your medical treatments. Aromatherapy is not a substitute for medical or psychological services; it is however, a wonderful complementary addition to your care.

Flower essences can only help you if you use them. Flower essences are very subtle and work best when combined with intentional use. When you use the essence daily it helps you to strengthen your commitment to healing and helps you understand your own inner subtle energetic and emotional changes.

The remedy I make for you is your ally that reminds you daily, to be an active participant in bringing presence, joy and beauty into your life. It is also very helpful to keep a journal during the first couple of weeks to chart your progress.

I usually use the essences made by the flower essence society, because I know the magical garden they come from and the great couple that makes them. I also make my own flower essences. I also use Bach essences.

Flower essences are made from the flowering part of the plant, which uniquely address emotional and mental aspects of wellness. The first 38 flower remedies were formulated by a British physician, Dr. Edward Bach, in the 1930’s, today many gardens are producing new essences from other plant species, especially the Flower Essence Society in Nevada City California.

“To understand how flower essences work requires a recognition that the human being is more than a physical body, but also incorporates a ‘body’ of life energy, a ‘body’ of sensitivity and feelings, and a spiritual essence or Self. Flower essences are energetic imprints of the life force of plants, which interact with these subtle bodies of the human being, and evoke specific qualities within us. We can say that they work in a similar way to inspirational music or art, which carry meaning through the vehicle of sound or light, while the flower essences work through the medium of water.”    – Taken from the flower essence society website

Flower essences have been used for thousands of years, (not called flower essences at the time) there are many pictures and reports of people bathing in and drinking flowers as a way of gathering their beauty, relaxation and magical properties, Many ancient cultures understood the interweaving of spiritual, mental, emotional and physical aspects of wellness, flower essences are remarkable remedies that creates bridges connecting all these “bodies” They work at very subtle levels enhancing the connection to the inner life and assisting one to find balance and a deeper understanding of what needs to be addressed on a emotional, mental and spiritual level for health and well-being.

Physicians, nurses, chiropractors, acupuncturists, herbalists, massage practitioners, hypnotherapists, physical therapists, nutritionists, psychologists, social workers, and other professionals find the essences to be an invaluable adjunct to their practice. Flower essences enjoy a reputation of being both highly effective and very safe to use because they contain no plant material, they have no drug interaction problems. They belong to a new field of potentized remedies, which derive their beneficial powers from the inherent life forces within each flower. They are literally the essence of the flowers.
